Today we set out early (by our standards - left hotel at 8:20 am) to head out for Jenny Lake and Cascade Canyon. One of the guide book said that this is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Grand Tetons. While I can't say whether that's correct, it certainly was a wonderful and very rewarding hike for us.
I call this Moose Day, because that will probably one of our most lasting memories from that day. We saw a Moose cow with her calf right as we drove into the park. However, a much better view awaited us in Cascade Canyon. We took the boat across the lake and hiked up to Inspiration Point which provides a great view of the Teton Valley. A lot of hikers stop there but they really miss out on the best. We continued on into Cascade Canyon, which reminded me of a lot valleys we used to hike in the Alps. One big difference: big, wild animals!!
We came up to a group of people that were all looking into one direction - the general signal here that there's a wild animal to be seen. And there it was, a beautiful bull Moose less than 50 meters away, enjoying the day in the sun and swimming through the river. It really is a wonderful animal, especially to watch just roaming around in the wild. The cameras were clicking away, as if he was a local celebrity.
Later on the hike we saw a second bull Moose, just sitting in the brush, chewing away.

We continued on further up the valley a while longer and then turned back down. I'd love to come back and explore these mountains further. This is really a great area and it's hard to convey its beauty in pictures. One tip - come early. By the time we got back down to the boat, it felt like a mall on a pre-Christmas shopping day.
That evening we went to a Western dinner and variety show at Bar J Chuckwagon, a great way to end our time in Jackson.
