Day 2 - Badlands to Custer State Park

View Larger Map Our day started out a bit late but we finally got on the raod from Wall to the Badlands. We had a 10:30 am appointment at the visitor center for Christopher to get a Junior Ranger badge. The Badlands are quite an impressive view - although Christopher's focus was on his Nintendo, which had to be confiscated.

To motivate him, we signed him up for the Junior Ranger program - here's his swearing-in ceremony:

So many photo ops - Kathryn could barely contain herself.

We took a couple of short strolls (not even walks and definitely not hikes as Kathryn refers to them). The kids climbed around some of the "rocks" - although they are mostly a clay-like substance - hence the heavy erosion. Then on to a guided fossil tour - the Badlands are a huge fossil site. As you can tell from the pic, however, the kids were not all that enthralled by Ranger Rick. After that it was on to Custer State Park where we checked into the Blue Bell Lodge. We have our own little cabin with a fire pit outside! This will be our home for the next four days.

Tomorrow: Mount Rushmore & Fireworks!! I may not blog tomorrow as we'll be out late.
